Speaking of cops gone wild…

There is currently a manhunt going in in southern California for a former Los Angeles police officer who is accused of shooting two police officers, killing one.   In a letter, presumably to the LAPD, Christopher Jordan Dorner, 33, promised to retaliate for being fired:

“I will bring unconventional and asymmetrical warfare to those in LAPD uniform whether on or off duty,”

And why was he fired?

The letter writer claimed he was terminated for reporting excessive force by a fellow officer, and said his attacks were retribution for his termination, as well as a culture of racism and violence he says continues within the department.

After that, the letter seems to become irrational:

He called the attacks against police “a necessary evil that I do not enjoy but must partake and complete for substantial change to occur within the LAPD and reclaim my name.”

Shooting cops is generally not a good strategy for reestablishing one’s good name.  Still, I wonder if we will ever hear anything more about his report of excessive force.

[UPDATE 12:20PM 2/7/13]

Apparently, in their zeal to capture this guy, LAPD officers shot some innocent people.  From KTLA.com:

Two women who were shot by Los Angeles police in Torrance early Thursday during a massive manhunt for an ex-LAPD officer were delivering newspapers, sources said.

The women, shot in the 19500 block of Redbeam Avenue, were taken to area hospitals, Torrance police Lt. Devin Chase said. They were not identified. One was shot in the hand and the other in the back, according to Jesse Escochea, who captured video of the victims being treated. It was not immediately known what newspapers the women were delivering. After the shooting, the blue pickup was riddled with bullet holes and what appeared to be newspapers lay in the street alongside.

Apparently there was another similar case of officers opening fire on bystanders:

A second shooting, involving Torrance police officers, occurred about 5:45 a.m. at Flagler Lane and Beryl Street in Torrance. No injuries were reported in that incident.

It’s becoming obvious they want Dorner dead.
